NEW & IMPROVED: Targeting individual Youth + Cash Prize of $50 000

We have heard your feedback, and are making the necessary changes. This is no longer a competition for youth groups. It’s now a competition for individual youth, and the top cash prize is $50 000 JMD.

Young people 15 to 24 years of age are invited to submit video recordings of themselves performing their original Songs, Poems, Raps or Dance using their smartphones/mobile devices. Entries should be no more than two minutes in length. Entries must illustrate how you would solve crime and violence, and or the contribution young people can make to the eradication of crime and violence and towards fostering a culture of peace. Deadline is Friday 17 September, 11:59 p.m.EXTENDED TO 5 P.M. SATURDAY 18 SEPTEMBER. The winning performance will be awarded 50 000 JMD. Top entries including the winning entry will be premiered and announced at the Youth Summit on Crime and Violence, September 21 – 22. The winner will also have a special feature in UNESCO’s youth #iRespectU social media campaign with a story and Instagram post on the winning group. Read the competition rules below

Competition Rules

Only ONE entry per person is permitted.

Participants may record the performance of their entry (song, poem, rap, dance) in video using a smart phone. The video must be submitted within the entry form as a MP4 file;

All participants must submit the ENTRY FORM by 17 September 2021, 11:59 p.m. EXTENDED TO 5 P.M. SATURDAY 18 SEPTEMBER

All submissions must address the issue of crime and violence, with focus on how the content creator(s) would solve this crisis, and /or the role young people can play in eradicating crime and violence and fostering a culture of peace.

All submissions must be original. Dances must use an original mix.

All participants are required to register for the Ready Set Great Youth Summit on Crime and Violence, as confirmed by digital registration records. REGISTER FOR SUMMIT HERE.

All participants must not post their entries to social media or broadcast on any public platform including their own until authorized to do so by the Youth Summit Steering Committee

Eligibility
Persons eligible to enter are:

  1. Young persons between the ages of 15 and 24
  2. Nationals or residents of Jamaica, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands

Prizes

  1. Top performing art entry (Song, Dance, Rap, Poem): $50 000 Jamaican dollars or its equivalent in relevant currency
  2. World premiere of the winning performing art entry and the winning visual entry at the Youth Summit on Crime and Violence Sep 21 – 22, 2021

Judges’ Score Sheet

Entries will be judged for:

  1. Incorporation of themes related to crime and violence solutions, the role of youth in solving the crisis and the role of youth in peacebuilding
  2. Originality & Creativity
  3. Overall Presentation & Delivery 

Who are the Judges?

The Ready Set Great Steering Committee, comprising UNDP youth interns and staff of UNDP, UNESCO, PIOJ, will judge competition submissions and select a winner as well as winners of bonus prizes.
