Jonathan Hernould was born in Jamaica and brought up around the sea, which sparked his interest in marine life and conservation. This led to his bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from Iona College and his return to Jamaica thereafter. Since then, he has been working in the environmental field in Jamaica and the Caribbean for over ten years, conceptualizing, managing, and working on projects such as marine sanctuaries, sea turtle conservation, solid waste management, and coastal ecosystem restoration.
Specialized and highly skilled in coral restoration, he has been motivated to use the expertise gained from nearly a decade in the field. Having worked on coral restoration projects all over Jamaica and the Caribbean, he saw the urgent need for the coral reefs in the Port Royal Cays to receive much-needed attention. This vision became the foundation for Reef Construction Limited and the Port Royal Cays Coral Restoration Project.
In addition to his coral restoration work, Jonathan manages the White River Fish Sanctuary, where he oversees conservation strategies, community engagement, and marine habitat protection. His combined efforts in reef restoration and sanctuary management contribute to safeguarding Jamaica’s marine biodiversity and promoting sustainable coastal ecosystems."
